Artist Bio

Victoria FitzGerald is an mixed media abstract artist exploring textural bases to start the painting process. Living in Wyndham Vale, Victoria works full time in Administration but finds time out of hours to paint. Victoria attended the Gordon Tafe in Geelong to start a Diploma and Degree in Fine Art.

Victoria has been experimenting to find her style for around 7 years; starting with watercolours, moving to acrylic on paper and ink pen and now into what she is currently using; oil paintings utilising moulding paste as a textural base to give depth to the colourful works.

Artist Statement

I am a mixed media artist interested in expressing feelings and moods through the relationship of colours and textures. I aim to create eye popping and soulful works that elicit a different response in everybody – it all depends on their world view and past experiences.

For these works I use a canvas base with moulding paste to create the texture base, these shapes are roughly planned, but as a semi fluid state, the end result is sometimes by chance . Oil paint is blended and provides a rich colour experience when glazed.

My work is about challenging perceptions with light and dark tones whilst incorporating texture so then finished work ‘dances’ in people’s eyes. They are an exploration of flow and movement, using sweeping textures and sharp lines to complement each other.
